DRYWALL CONTRACTOR

in Surrey, BC

Are you tired of working with drywall contractors who don't seem to care about quality craftsmanship? Contractors who don't seem to care that you have emotionally and financially invested in your dream house? Worry no more because we got your back.

We are a Surrey BC local company that specializes in building dream homes using gypsum products. We have more than ten years of experience working in this industry, and not once have we ever gotten a negative review from our clients. We specialize in sheetrock installation and repair because of its immense advantages compared to other traditional building techniques such as plaster.

What is Drywall?

It is a naturally occurring mineral scientifically known as calcium sulfate dehydrate. Depending on the region you are in, it can be referred to as plasterboard, gypsum panels, wallboards, custard boards, or buster boards. These boards are predominately used in residential and commercial construction because of their numerous advantages over cement plaster.

For example, sanding drywall is much easier and less messy when compared to filing a cement wall. Also, cement plaster application is dirtier than installing plasterboard because it requires skilled labour, and it is time-consuming. Do you have a drywall project? Fill in your details in the form below, and we will prepare a free quote for you.

For example, if two men are required to installed gypsum boards in a two-bedroomed house, it can take at least two days, depending on several factors. However, installing cement plaster will need at least five days to plaster the same house.

Advantages of Using Sheetrock

It is fire resistant

When building a dream house, you need to be more concerned about fire. One way to reduce the risk of fire is by using fire-resistant plasterboards. These boards increase the burn time by more than 60 minutes, giving you and your fire firefighters enough time to put the fire out. An example of fire-resistant panels includes type X boards and gyprock fire rated boards.

Has Soundproofing Properties

Gypsum boards will come in handy if you want to soundproof your property from external sound pollution. This comes in handy if you live near a busy market centre, a highway, or if you have a man cave. An example of suitable soundproofing plasterboards is acoustic plasterboard and fiber glass wool.

It Molds Proof Your Property

If you live in a moisture-prone area, then you need to be more concerned about the possibility of mould growing in your home. Mould thrives in humid environments such as the bathroom and kitchen. It is dangerous because it can cause respiratory illness among children and skin irritation. Other effects include itchy eyes, allergic reactions, and a stuffy nose.

Affordable to Install

To understand how affordable the panels are, let us compare it with cement plaster application. To apply plaster, you require several bags of cement, sand, and skilled labour. When installing drywall, you only need labour and the sheets to be installed. This considerably reduces the installation cost. Besides, studies have shown that plasterboard installation is 30 – 50% cheaper depending on the location.

Holes and Water Damage Repair

The type of hole to be repaired will depend on its size. If the plasterboard has a hole bigger than 6 inches wide, it is better to replace the entire section. If the gap is less than 6 inches wide, such as those created by doorknobs, we don’t replace the entire panel.

Replacing Small Holes

To replace a hole less than 6 inches wide, we will place a self-adhesive mesh patch over the hole with wall patching compounds in a crisscross pattern. The trick is to ensure that the edges are well feathered out so that the layer perfectly blends with the wall. If the compound is not a quick-drying compound, we will let the first coat dry before sanding.

Replacing a Medium Hole

Medium holes are those holes that are around 6 inches wide. To ensure there are no errors, we first take an accurate measurement of the hole and cut a piece of board that is 1 inch bigger. We then trace the square board over the hole and cut along the lines. As a qualified drywall contractor, we take all the needed precautions to ensure no electric cables or water pipes are behind the wall.

We will then fix a piece of wood and a furring strip inside the hole to create a firm foundation. The strip and timber are then held in place using drywall screws. Once in place, a drywall patch is inserted in the hole and screwed to a furring strip. We then apply a joint tape around the patch to create a strong bond between the drywall patch and the wall. Apart from creating a strong bond, the tape also helps reduce cracking because of reduced movement within the wall.

The final step involves using a joint compound to cover the tape and patch while feathering the edges to create a seamless look. If need be, we might apply a second coat and then sand to smoothen.

After Finishing a Repair

Once a repair has been finished, visitors should not know that a repair had been done. It is for this reason why all repairs must be sand for a seamless blend. After the area has been sand, we cover it with a coat primer and then let it dry. Once dried, the area is painted with the wall's original colour.

Removing Stucco Ceilings

Most people can not tell the difference between a stucco ceiling and a popcorn ceiling. Though these two types of finishes appear similar, they are not. A stucco ceiling has a more high-end finish when compared to a popcorn finish.

Stucco ceilings are currently being replaced because of the fear that it might contain asbestos. When removing stucco ceilings, we advise you to contact a qualified contractor because this is a dangerous job. For example, when removing stucco, dust particles float in the air, and when inhaled, they may cause diseases such as mesothelioma and cancer.

If you remove the stucco ceiling, your home's value can increase by more than 30%. However, it would be best to make sure that other factors, such as paint and roofing, are up to date. Other reasons to remove stucco ceilings are:

  • They result in increased allergic reactions, especially among children
  • They give your property an outdated touch hence lowering their resell value
  • Popcorn ceilings have higher maintenance costs
  • Are harder to paint

Framing Services

Framing is the process in which different fitting pieces are fixed together to create a supporting structure. The structure can also accommodate a particular shape or design based on the client's architectural wishes. If your property is not framed correctly, then you might experience squeaking floors or have doors that do not properly close.

Factors that Affect the Framing Process

The success of any framing project will depend on three main factors. These are:

  • The weather: If it is too rainy or snowy, then the framing process slows down
  • The project's complexity at hand: It is much simpler to frame a room with four corners than it is to prepare a room with six corners.
  • The size of the house: Bigger houses require more human resource hence increasing the framing time

The two popular framing systems in Surrey Bc are:

  • Wood Framing
  • Steel Framing

Wood Framing

Wood framing consists of either engineered wood lumber or ordinary wood lumber that is fastened together using nails to create a roof, wall, or floor. When wood is used to make floor frames, it is designed in a way that it can accommodate structural loads. It consists of the following parts:

  • A Sill plate
  • Rim Joists
  • Floor joists
  • A header

Wood frames have several advantages over wooden shelves. These are:

  • It has tensile strength, meaning that it can support its weight better than steel
  • Unlike steel, wood has better electrical and heat resistant capabilities
  • Wood has acoustic properties meaning it helps reduce echo in office spaces
  • Wood is made from environmentally friendly materials

Disadvantages of Wooden frames

Wooden frames have their disadvantages. These are:

  • They rot after sometime
  • Require to be treated for termites
  • Expensive, especially if you are in an area where wood is not readily available

Steel Framing

Steel framing uses skeleton frames of either horizontal or vertical columns to support a roof, floor or a wall. Steel frames are beneficial if you are developing a skyscraper. Other places where steel frames are of great use include:

  • Residential homes
  • Temporary structures
  • Warehouse buildings

Advantages of Steels Frames

Steel frames have several advantages over wood. These are:

  • They are lighter and more robust because they are 50% lighter than wood
  • Unlike wood, steel is easier to fabricate in different sizes
  • Steel is moisture resistant
  • It is insect and pest resistant

Disadvantages of Steel

  • Steel is efficient at conducting heat and electricity. This means more money will be required to insulate the building
  • Unlike wood, steel is not site friendly meaning if there is a measurement error, it is not easy to fix
  • Steel frames require supporting structures such as drywall sheathing for them to work.

Sound Proofing and Insulation Services

Our soundproofing services are geared towards commercial and residential property owners. Do you live near a busy market centre? Or you have a man cave that you would want to spend time alone? Or maybe your neighbour's dog is driving you crazy. If these apply to you, then you need to have your house soundproofed. Soundproofing is also suitable for the following areas:

  • In schools
  • In hospitals
  • In a music recording studio
  • In a theatre hall

Your property can be soundproofed in two ways. The first is by using a material such as Rockwool, which absorbs sound energy, and the second is by adding a mass to your walls so that it blocks sound from passing through.

Insulation Services

Our insulation services are designed to help residential and commercial property owners reduce their energy bills by preventing warm air from escaping the building and cold air from entering the building. Insulating your home has several advantages. These are:

  • It prevents moisture condensation
  • Reduces your air conditioning bills
  • It has acoustic capabilities
  • Improves your energy star rating

Also, did you know that some provinces require that landlords have their property's insulated? Failure to insulate your property may result in either multiple lawsuits or low indoor air quality that may result in increased respiratory infections.

We offer two commercial insulation services;

  • Public building insulation services
  • Steel building insulation services

Public Building Insulation Services

Landlords of public buildings require to have their properties insulated to make it more habitable for their tenants. For public buildings, we have come to learn that spray foam insulation is more advantageous. Spray foam insulation helps with:

  • Reducing the energy costs of a building as the A/c works more efficiently
  • It helps to reduce noise especially between different office compartments
  • It stabilizes internal air temperatures

Steel Building Insulation Services

When insulating a steel building, we prefer to use spray foam insulation because of the numerous advantages. The most obvious is that it protects metal machinery from rust. Other advantages of using spray foam insulation include:

  • Spray foam insulation stabilizes internal air temperatures
  • It reduces noise pollution especially in a factory environment
  • It increases the structural integrity of a building

Residential Insulation Services

When it comes to residential insulation, we advise that two types of insulation be used:

  • Blown-in insulation
  • Air seal insulation

Blown-in insulation is a foam of insulation in which non-toxic fiberglass wool is blown into the attic using a blower hose. The non-toxic fiberglass wool is blown so that it fills spaces in ceiling joists, between studs and small gaps that may exist on the wall. The primary purpose of blown-in insulation is to make the attic more energy efficient.

On the other hand, air seal insulation is used to fill air holes in buildings. Some of these holes may be found on walls, around plumbing pipes and soffit areas. Before air seal insulation is applied, an entire audit of your house has to be done. To insulate your home, give us a call, and we will provide you with a free non-obligatory quote.
